XL Eclipse charity events raise over $40,000

Over the past few days, 888poker has offered players a unique poker series in which to enjoy known as XL Eclipse. Within this tournament series, players had the ability to compete in various tournaments with something for everyone on the schedule. The poker community is big on giving back and 888 made sure to offer three charity tournament events on the XL Eclipse schedule. Known as ‘Chip-In!” tournaments, these events were able to raise more than $40,000 for the Against Malaria Foundation, providing funds to help protect people against the preventable disease.

This past Tuesday, 888poker’s XL Eclipse offered three of the charity tournaments on the schedule. All tournament fees paid by players participating in these events would go to the Against Malaria Foundation. The foundation uses 100% of donations to purchase insecticidal nets and provide them to people in need in an effort to protect individuals from contracting the preventable disease known as malaria.

First on the schedule this week was Event #126. This tournament was a Super High Roller charity event that had a buy-in of $5,200 and a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000. $200 from every player participating would go towards the charity. This event had 87 participants and 37 re-entries which helped to create more than $24,000 in funds for the charity.

Event #127 was also a ‘Chip-In’ tournament. With a $215 buy-in and $150,000 in prize money, this event saw many more taking part with 585 buying in directly. 360 players purchased reentries. According to Pocketfives, this event created more than $14,000 in donations.

The last event of the day connected to the charitable donations was Event #130. This Turbo tournament had a buy-in of $55 and offered $15,000 in prize money. This event had 277 players competing and $1,850 generated in donations.

Overall, players participating in the ‘Chip-In’ tournament events were able to provide more than $40,000 to the Against Malaria Foundation. The nets purchased by the foundation to help with malaria prevention are only $2.50 each so many will be able to be purchased in efforts to keep individuals from contracting malaria, a disease that is easily preventable with the right measures in place.
